| I just bought a new mouthpiece, 3 Cup instead of a 7c, so is it normal to have a really airy sound and trouble hitting notes above G3 or so? Or do i just have to practice more with it because my ambrochure is terrible? | ||

Ok, let me get this straight. You used to play on a 7C then moved to a "3 cup" (do you mean a 3C?) If thats right then you have moved to a larger mouthpiece not a smaller cup like the title of this topic suggests. Well on to answering the question, yes for many people moving to a larger mouthpiece they can experiance an airy sound and have range and endurance problems. The easiest solution for this would be to simply play the 7C. There is nothing that a 3C can do that a 7C cannot. I am not sure of your age, or how many years you have been playing but i'm guess your a student? (correct me if i'm wrong) I would suggest you stay on that 7C with good practise habits for many years before worrying about mouthpieces. Only when you have advanced enough that you know exactly why your changing should you change you mouthpiece. So yeah, play the 7C and get into some good practise habits and enjoy playing the trumpet with a great sound and plently of range/endurance. And if your worried about your embouchure (the correct spelling) then check out www.trumpetteacher.net |

| Thank you very much for all your help/clearing things up. Yes i am a student, Ive only been playing the trumpet for about a year now, but I've been a french horn player for 5 and a half years or so now. I alternate between both, which is the reason for my bad embouchure(heh) and more or less lack of knowledge of the trumpet. I was told that a 7C, which came with my horn, would give me trouble with higher notes, and a 3C could prevent that. I take it my source of information was wrong. Im glad for clearing it up =) | ||
