Does anyone of you possess a microfone for your trumpet?
or if you play with a microfone, what kind of mic do you use?

they arent really necessary, unless its a very proffesional performance then playing in a regular mic ona stand works just fine

i played already several times in a stand microfone, but it sucks after a while, because you have to stand still and don“t move or do any stage performance to avoid that your sound and volume changes... ive got the audiotechnica pro clip microfone for brass... its great^^

very good point.

i have a question that has nothing to do with this stuff but i dont want to start and entire thread:
is there a difference between growling and flutter tonguing?
if there is then what is it?

EDIT: i asked my trumpet teacher, he explained to me as growling is a more aggresive flutter toungue kinda from the throat

I am pretty sure flutter tonguing is basically just rolling your tongue, but into your mouthpiece (obviously). When you growl, you use your throat, not your tongue. I wouldn't say that growling is a more aggressive form of flutter-tonguing, because they're manipulated completely differently.

right sorry, thats what he said - that it was with your throat, it just sounded to me as a more aggressive form of flutter-tonguing
but thanks for the clarification

back to the thread......i use both a shure sm 57(its quality is great) and a ATM roam elite clip on micro. i play both trumpet and trombone in my ska band so i use the shure for the trombone and the ATM for my trumpet. they both work really good.

i typically just play a normal mic with my band. it seems to work well for now (i've played with them for about 8 months or so now) but i would really like to get a mic to clip on to my bell. wireless would be great too...

How much did these mics run you? I've looked into getting a clip on and it was more expensive than I thought it would be, the ones I saw ranged from $110-$200+ Canadian (which I guess is about the same as American right now, and I think it's about $Canadian x2.5= Pounds [I don't have a pound key on my keyboard and I don't feel like finding the Alt+ code right now]) $110 is fine, but I didn't trust the $110 ones at all, and $200 is a little steep for a mic if you ask me (although it is an awesome mic and it would change my life).

Ok, thanks, I had seen a couple around $600, but I really wasn't sure whether I would be paying for quality or a brand name.

If you're planning to do any playing involving mutes or plunger work then clip mics are obviously not the way to go. I use the Shure SM 57 for live shows and it works beautifully. I picked mine up for around $110 so it's way cheaper than most wireless clip mic systems. If you don't play with any mutes or plungers then clip mics are a good way to go, and if you get a wireless one you can always skank around the stage while playing!

thats very true........sakanktrumpet......
and I guess you can also give more feeling to your part with the SM57 mic because you have more liberty to move around.......and give a different kind of sound to your notes....you always want to have a good tone.....cheers!!!
