anyone here play a valve...i bought one thinking i could play a lot more complex and faster songs...but it sounds stuffy and i cant play very loud, so that has really got me down on it. plus i miss doing smears and glissando
does any one else have an opinion on valve tbones?

i've almost bought one....i've never played one though....i heard from many people that they just sound awful...and i've always wanted to prove them wrong. lol. stuffyness probably has to do with the condition of your horn.....or..the way it was made...i think that serious people look down on the valve.....so...it's neglected ...i would say the best way to go is to buy the maynard creation....is it the superbone? ..it's got valves and a slide....but...i think it's pretty expensive...and ...i would imagine, difficult to master. but it looks so damn awesome... http://www.gleblanc.com/instruments/art/large/TR395_ko.jpg ...and....musicians friend price it a little under $3,000...but it's backordered till...november...well...i can dream

Personally I dont think Valve trombones are as good as the real thing - Its just the same as any other horn, whereas with the slide t-bone you get to use the slide and glissando and stuff, which is kinda why i enjoy playing.

Just my 2 cents, as it were.

If you want a valve trombone, might as well get a baritone. There no difference besides the shape really.
