This was on May 27th. My first ever ska show! Needless to say I was really excited, managed to find myself a checkered wrist band and tie off ebay to look the part ![]() The line up was: You me at six Beat Union Mad Caddies Failsafe Sonic Boom Six Paramore Reel Big Fish Though I did enjoy Failsafe's set (They were kinda goldfinger-y punk), I wasn't particularly impressed by any of the none-ska acts. Mad Caddies being on the bill so early was apparantly just because of their travel commitments, so they had to play early on. But man, they were amazing! Couldn't fault their performance at all, and the crowd was great. This was my first time skanking in a crowd, so that was really fun too. By the end of the set I was soo damn sweaty, but it was worth it. The highlight of the set had to be either "Monkeys" or "Weird Beard", but the whole show was great. Reel Big Fish were totally amazing. They opened with "Sell Out" and ended with "Trendy", which I believe is backwards to how they usually do it? I thought that was a much better way to do it though, because I think Trendy is just a much better song to close with! (Faster, more fun, more skanky.) We were treated to 2 songs from "Monkeys for Nothing and the Chimps for Free", those were "Another F.U. Song" and "New version of you". "New version" was sounded really great, and "Another F.U. song" was brilliantly hilarious in that classic RBF way. Seriously, if these 2 songs are anything to judge by, the album could well be their best yet. Best song of the night? Beer. Not because thats my favourite song, but because of the HUGE circle the crowd opened up. Seriously, it was massive. The second the guitar melody kicked in and everyone ran (or skanked) into the middle, from there on out it was utter mayhem. LOVED IT!!! So, yeah, FANTASTIC night. Was anyone else there? |
