Sup again. A'ight, so I'm playing a new piece yeah, you may have heard of it before, it's a sweet little song called Riding the Fourth Wave. Here's what I'm planning, I'm gonna do the Catch 22 version and I'm gonna play the tin whistle part at the start, then I'm gonna play all the horn parts on my trumpy. So far it's coming along pretty well. This is a pretty good solo piece, so I'm just wondering if anyone has played this before and have any tips for me. Also, I'm not really expecting much wisdom on this, but I'm playing the tin whistle part on a tin whistle in the key of D. I'm certain that I've got the starting note right, and it all sounds right when I play it by myself, but when I play it with the CD there are just a few notes that don't sound quite right. Any ideas? Do I need a whistle in a different key? Should I try tuning my whistle? I've only picked it up just now for this performance, so could it be that I'm just too crap at the moment, and need to learn to tune each note with my throat/mouth/emboucher? Hope you guys are all well with whatever you're doing, -Faulk

I tried playing along on my tin whistle in D, but it seems to be too high for this flute.. first note: close holes 1+2+3+4+5 and blow a bit harder.. that's already pretty high to play on a flute in D.. |

Ahh. Well my trumpet teacher and I worked on it again today and I think I might have it right but I still need to do more work with the CD. For one of the notes that sounded wrong, the trick is to put 1+2+3+4+5 fingers down and half cover the 6th hole to give C natural instead of C#. And it is high, but I think it'll work, I just need to control the squeeling that sometimes occurs. Thanks for the input Sander. And yeah, those videos were great, but they cheated with the tin whistle part...props to Soul Regatta... |

| Oh and also, we think that whoever plays it on the CD is actually a bit sharp, so it might sound a bit better if you push your mouthpiece on a little more than proper tuning. | ||
