Do you mean improv? Like solo over? If so, there should be an article on jamming scales that you can look at, and I can give you some tips on which scales to use when (which I think you're asking).

If you really mean best scale to improve on, the answer would be all of them, most people will start out with their Bb concert scale, (Bb for trombone, C for T sax/trumpet/clarinet, G for Alto/Bari sax), or many guitars will start in E or A. A good rule of thumb is, no matter the instrument (except guitar) C major (not concert) scale is supposed to be the easiest to play. Learning all 12 major and 12 minor scales will make your playing much better, and allow you to play basically anything you want. Learning all the scales is even better, there's no limit to what you can play. I would suggest trying to work on one of the "harder" scales on your instrument, say, F#, figure out what that is, and work on it, even write a song in F#, go from there and move on to different keys, some of them you'll find you like even better than the one's you're playing in already.
