hey anyone out there can give me an opinion on trumpets?
my dad plans on giving me a new trumpet for Christmas ...
he said it can range from $500 - $3,000 so i want to ask you people for any ideas on a good trumpet. The weird thing about this is that even though that Christmas presents are supposed to be a secret thing,he asked me What i wanted....to me thats a pretty cool dad. So if you guys have any opinions on what trumpet i should get. Dont hesitate to post your options. Thanks

well... If you want to take advantage of his price range, try seeing if you can find a Yamaha Xeno or a Bach Stradivarius,, they tend to be really good horns. I recommend playing it before buying it. If your dad is telling you what he is getting, I am sure he wants to know if you will like it and if it is a good horn. If you can find a trumpet that you play well on, it really doesn't matter what brand it is. Try playing a bunch and see if you sound good (great is even better), try some slurs and see if they feel right, try your range, and basically just get the feel of the horn. New doesn't always equal better, also. Some really great horns are older. Anyway, just something to think about when getting one. You can probably find a guide online to buying a trumpet or something like that. Well, good luck.

I strongly recommend the Bach Strad, Just wondering what is like I guess your highest note that you can hold for 4 beats. And what do you want to do on trumpet specifically genres.

Personally I play a lot of Ska, Jazz, Classical and I'm using a Bach Strad 43

Coming from a fellow trumpet player, I recommend the Stradivarius. I personally don't own one, but I have played on them, and kids I know that I have them say only positive things. I get nervous when it comes down to Yamaha things. I know the Xeno is a very good horn, but I just don't know if I could trust an instrument made by the same company that makes motorcycles and such. I'd also recommend an Edwards- they're top notch.

I agree with J0hntrumpet on this. Bach Strad model 43 is great, with a strong tone. i bought it on ebay for about 1050, which is a reliable source if you know what youre doing. i reccomend talking to someone who knows a lot about trumpets, suc as a band director or private teacher, before buying one, especially if you are going to get one on ebay.

if you have a price range of 3k go with a Taylor!

Andy Taylor makes godly horns and they are seriously right beneath Monettes...i sit next to one every day 1st period...trust me.

Go for a Taylor New York

Alright I took a look at the Taylor site and 3000$ i like the lowest price you can get. My friend just got a silver plated Xeno for around 3000$ and its very good, he let me try it and its very open and even though its silver plated (usually gives it a brighter tone) it sounds fine in concert band. I recommend a Xeno, Taylor, or a Back strad 43. just go out and try all 3 if you arent sure
