Apologies if done to death before, but just wondering what was that first song that got you into ska/ska punk etc ? I always loved Madness as a kid in the early 80's but discovered Reel Big Fish by accident when channel surfing. I saw the video to "Where Have You Been" from the Cheer Up album and was blown away. Loved the genre ever since ! |

| The first ska song I ever heard was Super Orgy Porno Party by the Planet Smashers. I heard it on Much Music (Canadain equivalent to MTV, for those who don't know) | ||

Heh, Ollie I like your story about Angry Anthem. I'm sure that that song would have converted me if it was the first ska I'd heard too. For me, I think the first ska that I heard was The OC Supertones' live album, but I didn't actually know that it was ska. Then one day, after hearing ska mentioned a few times in relation to brass instruments, I walked into my local Sanity CD shop and asked the girl there if they had any ska. She had a look on the computer and couldn't find any, but then checked a shelf and pulled out Favourite Noise by RBF and said "have a listen to this, I think they play ska and they did a song on the move 'Baseketball'". After that I was totally hooked, and looking back on it, I was really impressed with that girl's customer service. I'm sure that if I asked for ska again today, I'd just get a confused frown. -Faulk

Tony Hawk pro Skater One had a song by, Goldfinger, callled superman. Also the movie Clueless(1996) had mighty mighty bosstones featured in it.' knock on wood' was the song In my early early days the movie Good Burger (nickelodeon 1997 film) also had Less Than Jake in it. All of these early influences made me like the songs but i later figured out they all kind of had the same things going for them so i began looking into ska music. |

I watched the Waterman cartoons a while back and I really like their stolen theme song (Give It To Me cover at the end of Cheer Up). I was so obsessed by this awesome sound that I looked up RBF and got totally into ska from then on. I especially liked it because I recently started playing trumpet... I couldn't play anything though lol.. But now I love learning all these awesome songs.

Wine Stained Lips - Catch 22 heard it on an ad for Dinosaur Sounds on MTV (whoa, i know, right?) in 2003 while my mom was taping a Nickleback music video (lolz). i got the CD for christmas that year didn't listen to any more ska until 2006 when a kid played Everything Went Numb for me. Liked it but had been considering getting c22's KN and ended up comprimising and buying the brand new Keasbey Nights as Performed by Streetlight Manifesto. Been hooked from the first horn rif of dear sergio...
