Although in the trumpet forum, could essentially apply to all horns ?

Was there a song, reason, inspiration that made you want to learn ?

Ive always loved a decent brass sound in a song but the song that inspired me to stat lessons was 8 Harp by Damn Skippy. I discovered them totally by chance after getting given a free copy of their EP "Gloriously Shambolic" on the way out of a Reel Big Fish show in London. I think the track can be listened to on their My space page, its pure quality !

I think for me it was the song Hello by The Cat Empire. I was really keen on drums when I started Year 8 and I was going to apply for them, but Mum suggested a brass or woodwind instrument because they wouldn't be as popular as drums. Other songs that also influenced me are Superfly by The OC Supertones and Kamikaze by Five Iron, both were on an alternative compilation called X. Also I can't coordinate my feet for drums =P

My fifth grade band teacher told me that i would make a great trumpet pplayer, so i tried it, and immediately got hooked.

I'm influenced by all the classics, i.e. Maynard Ferguson, Louis Armstrong, etc.

but also my trumpet teacher, who used to play 3rd chair trumpet for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, (Tim Slaymann) and Johnny "Christmas" christianson of Reel Big Fish

Um, I hadn't any actual influence by trumpet ( this is kinda weird so hold on)
My major influence to play the trumpet was the song 'Funky Town', and it wasnt the actual song, it was a synthesized 30 second clip of the chorus which would loop when you played this game at chuckie cheese, where you would sit down and squirt more water at the target than your opponent. Uh, yes, really, that and I loved the annoying pitch it was often played for in the cartoons I watched. The personality, or atleast the stereotype of the trumpet playing society is what really grabbed my attention. This hyperactive, quick-licked, fast paced, stream of notes seemed all too much like who I am, so...why not? I was obsessed with it the second I laid eyes on my new trumpet, and called myself a trumpet player before I could even play a damn note on it. But I knew I would-I dont just give up on something that amazing to me

I played piano for 4 years between grade 2 and 6 so when grade 7 rolled around I immediately tried out for band, I chose trumpet because I was that weird kid that loved listening to Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis Chet Baker etc. I loved the sound of the trumpet and the diversity. I switched to percussion for a year, big mistake. Now I do it to make the woodwinds run in fear.
