and I need to know how long it is until I stop sucking. I've played trombone for over 6 years, and i know how long it can take to get good. but im jut wondering for someone who practices ALOT, how long will it be before I get beyond my 1 octave range (well, its about C to C) just wondering, any estimation would be appreciated!

its an A. Eastman trumpet. My parents got it at a local music store for $200. On the side of it it says ETR400R, but i never found anything about that model number online, and the store had it listed as a ETR420G, which is all over the internet. i think its supposed to be nice, but i really wouldnt know...

| Hmmm, I'm not really the person to ask about good trumpets (not that anyone actually has asked me) but I haven't even heard of that brand. And for $200 I'd wonder about it. But like...are you actually looking to go anywhere serious with it? | ||

it was on mega sale. the store workers couldnt even believe they were sellign it so low (they had to check with some higher ups before selling it to my parents)... i think the company is ok. I know a great pro trombonist who plays trombones made by their sister company, if that means anything... and as far as how serious I'm gonna get, I love plkaying instruments. I play trombone and bass, both pretty well, and also guitar, although not so hot their. So i thought trumpet would be fun, plus it could help diversify the horn section for my band, whcih currently is 2 tromobnes (me included)...but i dont know if i'll ever say, play trumpet for the school band. but instruments have taken over my life, practicing is all i do in my free time...

Yeah I'm not surprised that it was on sale. That's a low price for a trumpet (and yes I'm taking into account our different currencies) so when you're looking at an RRP like that, there should be some visible signs that it's not a quality horn (eg. a coloured exterior or a keyring hanging off of the bell =P). In fact I think the only new trumpets that I've seen that low were probably those coloured ones that I haven't ever touched, but apparently sound awful and go out of tune easily. I'm sure that even as a trombone player you should be able to appraise the quality of your instrument. Okay yeah, that's cool. I'm kind of the opposite of that, I'm really serious about my trumpet, but for now, any other instrument that I buy will be the cheapest full size one I can find so that I can just muck around with it and use it for jamming. Sometime in the next year I'm hoping to get a really cheap bass and maybe even a cheap trombone. Although if I like the trombone, that would be my first preference as a second instrument. -Faulk

| I've also never heard of that brand, you've played brass for 6 years though you should be able to tell if its decent or not. Either way for 200$ its defiantly a bargain even if the quality is not so good. Ive been playing for about 6 years and I can only play up to an F above the staff and a pedal F so don't expect your range to improve too much too fast. On a happier note in a couple months you should be able to play a G or so above the staff and feel pretty confident about that. | ||
