I'm studing at Monash University which is in Victoria Australia. I'm studing Classical although I have studied some jazz as part of the course. I've been playing for 9 years.

My uni career so far has been ok, I think the course I'm doing is lacking in some areas like ear training and composition and arranging. But playing wise its been good.

Good luck with your auditions, just remember that the judges want to hear you play well, they are willing you on, not working against you. Thinking like sometimes helps me with nerves. Also I think the most important part of uni as a music major is your teacher. Do as they say and you'll be fine.

Other thing is to practise heaps. I only did enough to get by first two years and now in my final year I'm paying the price. I gotta be working even harder now.

Anyway good luck, let us know how you go.

I am currently playing on an Omega Bach Strad. I don't know the specs of the bore and all that...I should probably find out. I play on my Shilke 14a4a for jazz/ska stuff, and then a Bach 3c or 5c for classical.

I play on a Getzen 3851 Custom. Greatest horn I've ever played. It blows easy and free. I play on a Vincent Bach 1 1/2 C mouthpiece.

Im pretty sure a bach strad is pretty much standard for an all around player. Thats what I have. I also have a 5b mouthpiece for the low pretty stuff. But for the higher, I forget what I have...

I got a cruddy yamaha (dont even know what kind) as my backup, usually only use it to practice spinning lol.
my concert horn is a Bach Strad (notincing a trend?) model 43 which i love. when i first got it it was smooth and the tone is strong.
mouthpiece: yamaha 7c and a Bach 5b. i use the 5b for mostly everything, but can anyone reccomend a reaaly good mouthpiece? especially for ska? i dont really follow what the differences are.

Yamaha - YTR8335LA
Bach 3C
Schilke 14a4a
Bach 1 1/2C Megatone

I use the 14a4a and the 3c when I play in my ska band and the megatone when I need a nice, full, rich sound in concert band or when playing jazz stuff.
