Yeah, i'll throw my hat in for The Cat Empire too, saw them live at the Enmore Theatre in Sydney, i'd give it more jazz than ska, but they cover so many genres, it's hard to categorise them www.thecatempire.info is another awesome site on the guys, see if you can get a recording of Harry (Their lead trumpet) soloing over the horn section, it's probably the best horn sound i've heard

Yeah, if you haven't heard these guys then you gotta, they are very talented musicians. I got their self titled album and I've heard their second album but I love the trumpet part towards the end of 'The Wine Song'. I'm still dying to see them live.

You gotta see them live! The recordings are good but they truly are a band made for playing live. As for if they are ska or jazz or pop or latin or hip hop or folk or scottish death metal rap. (i made that last one up)

Felix says they style of music is called "Live Australian Music" simple!!!

Uh huh. I'm still waiting for their next tour but in the meantime I got the next best thing. It was my birthday recently [ ] and one of the things I got was a DVD called 'On the Attack' which is like a song from each of their gigs and behind the scenes footage and stuff. Still can't wait to see em live though.

NOOOOOOO!!! Did anyone see the opening ceremony for the Commonwealth Games? I thought, eh, just boring people in costumes and athletes walking around so I didn't watch it. And now I hear that The Cat Empire was playing like, right through it. I wish I was flexible enough to kick myself.

So did anyone else see it? Do tell.

I watched it!!! I'm sorry to rub it in but the boys were awsome. They play for about an hour straight as all the athletes walked in. They changed the beat and stuff depending on what country it was, so like the Afriacan countries, they'd play really rhythmic stuff, lots of drums, then for like for others it was more like latin. Their wasn't any vocals that i heard, Felix mostly danced and played percussion.

Yeah, it was good. I actually found out quitely that they would play the day before it happened so I was ready to watch the whole thing. Don't be caught out again, get all the lastest goss here:

Look out for the new album, (which will have some stuff they played at the opening on it) in a couple of days.

It's awsome. I'm serouis. The horns play a huge role on the whole CD and its very reggae and fun. You simply must buy this CD.

I got it! I got it!
And about time too. Well, where to start. That's a weird album but at the same time it's really good. Their diversity doesn't cease to impress me because this album is really different from the first two. Of course, it's still got that cool Cat Empire sound but the horns make it...different. I think they've also added more effects and guest instruments to this album and some female vocals. But like Dizzy said, it's good fun and "You simply must buy this CD".

I went to see dem! About a week ago. Wow, that was an awesome gig. They are amazing live. They brought their guitar/sitar player along and he did a solo on each...man he's good. Their keyboard player did a couple of his five minute solos here and there and their bass player stood on the amp. But the thing that suprised me was that although there was a big crowd, they weren't very active...weird.

Anyway, the trumpeter from the horn section had something black, about the size of a tennis ball attatched to his trumpet. It was on the part next to the mouthpiece receiver that curves up and around and then turns into the bell. I was too far away to give anymore information than that. Does anyone know what it could've been?

Listen to the entire new album 'So Many Nights'

here.

It's pretty good...but I actually still think that their original was their best. What do you guys think?
