I was wondering if there's a lot a schools out there that have a pep band (could be called something else where you are perhaps). It's a small selection of students (probably 15 - 25) that play down on the track during the second half of a football game, as well as special school events like rallies and assemblies. The music we play is all really catchy stuff, a lot coming from USC's unbelievable marching/pep band. Some "basic" stuff we play you've probably heard, like "Hey" -- C... C B... B A... A B C... And then we even have the cool stuff -- a couple of ska song arrangements like Reel Big Fish's "Sell Out" and No Doubt's "Spiderwebs," as well as some songs by rock groups like The Offspring's "The Kids Aren't Alright" and Fleetwood Mac's "Tusk," and about 10 or 15 others. I'm one of four trumpets in it, and some of the things we play get really intense. Our first trumpeter can play amazingly loud (but believe me, it's not the annoying kind of loud or bad-sounding loud). In one song we play, we do a "Trumpet Line" where we all stand in the middle of our arch, lean back to the crowd, and just wail. Anyways, it's a lot of fun. Anyone else out there in a band of this sort? |

Except, of course, souping it up like playing it an octave up, adding some fast rhythms, growls, etc. ^ Meant to add that. (Where's the Edit Post button??) |

| our marching band = our pep band. and our marching band = 120 people. there's some pretty intense noise coming from the band when we start gettin into it. We've got some pretty fun songs like Green onions or Frankenstein. I've heard the recording of USC's marching band play tusk with Fleetwood mac; amazing. Sell out though, that's suprisingly cool to hear from a pep band | ||

We have a fairly small marching band (70 people) And we do have a 'pep band' 2 or 3 trumpets (me) trombone mellophone bari Baritone tenor sax and percussion yeah, wierd instrumentation but that's what we've got. Boy, I do wish we could play sell out though... |

Ya, I'm from the Boston suburbs and there are some intense pep bands around here too, but not quite as big as some of yours. My teacher rumors that he has an arrangement for crazy train where I could play melody, the intro, but the trumpets couldnt handle their part. O well. I also play the tenors (quints) in the drumline so i dont usually play sax at the games. but drums are fun sometimes.

Cool, our marching band (along with lots of others) actually got to go to a USC game last year and play a song out on the field at half time. And their "pep" band played after the game, and it was amazing -- they practically break dance when the play/scream/wail on their horns.
