The syllables Too Too Koo produce a cleaner articulation. Practice just saying the syllables before you actually pick up your trumpet. Don't try and do it too fast. Just get it clean. It takes a while for your tongue to get used to it, but once it does, it's not that hard. Hope that helps. Peace Chris

| When i first started tryin to learn triple tounging, i was taught to do "tih kah dee", and it worked out pretty good for me. like chryxz said, you just have to practice with it for a while. | ||

| Well, the Too syllable produces a sound from the front of the mouth, while the Koo syllable begins more towards the throat. These can be rapidly alternated to produce very quick tonguing. There are two too syllables in a row because your muscles can't really handle more than two in a row that quickly, which is why you put the koo in there. You can only single tongue (too) so quickly. I hope that this makes some sort of sense. It's hard to explain online. | ||

what im trying to say is, if the muscles can only "too" so fast, why have it twice instead of trying to make another syllable in the middle of the mouth. such as, "too doo koo" or somthing like that Ryan

| doo is also in the front of your mouth. I don't think there is a syllable in the middle of the mouth. | ||

If You check out The Arban method they'll use "tah tah kah". But The use of " Tah Kah Tah, Tah kah tah" and so on won't get you to slow down. Practice this exercise really slowly from the begining using really strong tonguing so your attacks will be really clear and short. I don't think the use of any smoother thonging like dah or gah is any good. Because when you have to use your triple tounging the chart must be quite fast and not slured at all. ![]() |

I'd like to point out that even if you were to do 'Too-koo-too' over and over again as the syllables you use, you'd still get the same effect that if you were to use 'Too-too-koo'. Too-koo-too-too-koo-too-too-koo-too See them both hidden in there? And by the way, what's with the picture up there? |

| i think that actually any syllable will work that has tonguing to do with it. before i found this site, i had to do some triple tonguing, and i just practiced for a while. i actually used 'ta-ta-ta', the only problem is it pretty well took me forever to practice and learn to do properly..... but it really helped with the rest of my tonging... but i suppose it would be easier if you made the second note a different syllable.. | ||
