Wow, you really have the giant list. I really haven't gotten around to listening to much. I quite like Stan Getz but I really should look into others. Out of that list, who would you say are the best Tenor players? If thats an impossible question because I bet they are all fantastic, who's a good person to start with? Sax is really an amazing instrument. I love listening to crazy jazz when the sax players go insane but nice smooth stuff is very good aswell.

Yeah I've heard of those players aswell, just have never actually listened to them. Post the Bari sax players just for kicks. I think bari is amusing.

Well, let's see, for bari players:

Gerry Mulligan,
Ronnie Cuber.

there are more, but their names escape me.

Check out Gerry mulligan and Miles Davis' version of my funny valentine. it's really cool. no chordal instrument, so mulligan plays all sorts of wierd chord progressions between the bass and miles davis, and vice versa.

Coltrane, then Wayne Shorter. Charlie Parker was a master of what he did, bebop, the only problem is, that's the only thing he did. He was still amazing though. Playing all of his solos in the Charlie Parker Omnibook is one of my lifetime goals.

Well what else would Charlie Parker have played? Ska?

The guy invented bop. Some say that bebop was the pinnacle of jazz.

The only thing he did?! Changed jazz history and the music forever. Parker is second only to Louis Armstrong in his contribution and importance to jazz and subsequently all pop music.

Yeah, he's definately sweet but I don't know his name either. My teacher brought in a mad recoding of him once to show me some mad sax technique. It's definately inspired me. I learned thuck touning after listening to it and I still want to learn some of the mad altissimo licks he was playing. I don't remember if I was inspired to growl from that recording, I'm learning towards no but it's a possibility. I still remember the first time I tried to growl, it was amazing, well actually it was crap but now I am a growling fiend. I growled twice during a solo duet thing during a funk piece played at my school christmas concert previouslt this evening. So yeah, I'd like to know his name aswell and I should find some more of his stuff because it is wicked. I think we are playing a ballad in jazz band that was originally played by him.
