I'm a sophomore, been playing for 4 years, and got a Yamaha student trumpet when I started. My band director, a great trumpet player, suggested that I maybe upgrade my horn. Now my question is...what would be a good upgrade horn to get??? For reference, I would like a good horn for jazz, as well as marching and...well any type of music really. Price...doesn't really matter that much, I'm willing to work. I just wanted an opinion from some other trumpet players. Thanks.

Many regard the Bach Stradivarius as one of the best models of trumpets made. This is what I play (Model 43), and I couldn't be happier with it. I love it more everyday. It's a beautiful thing. Anyways, if you're interested, some information can be found here: http://www.giardinelli.com/srs7/g=home/s=reviews/content/doc_id=98951 and at the official site as well: http://www.bachbrass.com/content/s_trumpets/index.php (which includes a link to a downloadable PDF with all the specs/info you need.) |

| I agree with Severfire. The bach strad is a very versatile trumpet. I own one as well. I use it for concert, marching and jazz bands. It plays quite well in all styles. It's a great trumpet to have when you're playing a bunch of different music. | ||

Yes, definitely -- before you buy your trumpet, test a whole bunch (that are available) out, and choose whichever one you know is "the one." Every single horn is different, and it's all a matter of which you like best. Glad I could help. B)

Thanks to everyone... Question... Do most music shops let you go in and test-play all those fine horns? I know it'll be different with each shop but do the majority of music shops let you try-before you-buy? thanks BC

The different stores I went into let me try out any horn I wanted -- I think most stores will do this as long as you show an interest in buying. I only went to about 3 different stores, but I'm willing to bet most stores will let you try anything out.
