Yeah so we started a band as a joke and we just figured out all the members and its actually kidna serious which i thought was cool.

this is everyone in the band:
guitar, drums, bass, 3 trumpets, trumbone, bass trumbone, and alto sax

what do u guys think of a 9 person ska band? i know its big but i dont really care. like we were thinking of covering a song but we dont know what song to cover... i was thinking like 2-tone army by the toasters, or somethin. what do u guys think?

Damn, that's pretty sweet. That's a shit load of trumpets but whatever. Then a Trombone and a Bass trombone, thats pretty much gold. hahaha then the lonely sax. You definately have to do a good number of instrumental songs because it'd be a waste not to with that many horns. I think it's really sweet. I wanted a really big ska band [and still plan on putting together a mass ensemble for the talent show or something] and I what I have is a seven peice [full possibility of 5 horns when bass guitar is cut and bassline covered by Bari Sax]. That should be fun organizing practices but the outcome should definately be worth the effort. Good luck.

I like bands that have a lot players that are also diverse, like Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution.

That's a pretty good arrangement; you have most of the necessary instruments, although 2 trumpeters is probably enough. I wouldn't know an ideal song to cover, but if I was to ever start a band (which I want to, but my school schedule kills that idea...) I'd try a song like Catch 22's Supernothing. Then maybe work up to something more intense like Streetlight's Here's To Life.

Anyways, good luck w/your band.

I used to play for a ska band that had 4 trumpet players(including myself), 2 trombones, 1 alto, and a tenor sax. I quit because it was stupid and we never got anything done.

It's not the size of the band, it's the rowdiness in the crowd.

Yar! Huge ska bands are the best kind. There are 8 folk in my band, but only 3 of them are the ska section (these are the only girls too!) We have: 2 guitars, 1 bassist (and vocals), a drummer, trumpet, trombone (moi), sax, and, erm, our random mascot/ friend who dances around and gets the crowd going!

My band currently only has horn section member (me on trumpet) but we seem to do okay. there is a chance we may get a trombone playa which would be cool.

just for the record, my band covered two tone army for our first song, it would have been awsome, but the bass amp was messin up, dam school shows, but its a simple, awsome ska song, so i would go for it, dont know how you're gonna pull it of with 4 trumpets though, but ya ^.^

Also, My band only has a trombone player (me ^.^), and a sax for the horn section. I dont think it matters how big the horn section is, I say it's how good the people behind the horn can play

I think big ska bands are rad too. It looks so much cooler when there is heaps happening on stage and all the members go wild as well as making the music sound full. The ska band I am in has 8 members: Guitar, Bass, Drums, 2 Trombones, Trumpet, Alto sax and a Keyboard. I strongly recommend getting a keyboard player (if you can) it makes your music sound so much more energetic. We recently found this out since our keyboardist only recently joined. Just thought I'd throw that into the mix.

but huge ska bands are always better...
like compare a small local band to streetlight or botar... although they have their seperate stylings, which one would u rather listen to? lol

dude large ska band equals awesome as long as u guys are serious about playing two guys goofing off in a band too much can spread and then nobody wants to do anything. Also make sure to do something with all the options u have by having such a large horn section, harmonize man
