Any advice on how to work towards playing altissimo? I'm trying to achieve that upper register but without any instructor have no idea what direction to head in. D.L.T.B.G.Y.D.

My advice, practice, then practice then practice. Once you start tryign a bunch of time you willlearn how to make the notes sound better, you muscle memory will help you remember the proport Embouchure tension, and such.. i can geta few or them but i will also keep trying them over and over.. If i find anythign in particular il post again. |

| I need to learn them properly because I can definately muster up some really high notes but I have no clue what they are and I know I have not learned them properly. I find they are fun in the middle of a hardcore sax off where notes and key signature doesn't matter. I had the best sax off the other day, it wasn't long but I had one line that went ever so perfect with madd trilling, growling, and some altissiomo at the end. My Sax off component forfeited and went on his knees in awe of it. It was a pretty luck go. Sax offs are the best fun ever. | ||

altissimo is easyer when u r using alto... it is because i`v try playing altissimo using all kind of sax... the hardest is bari then tenor then soprano... i can play altissimo until the D note... it is the highest note... im actually quite good in altissimo... about the training course... i discover it myself... u`ll just need to smile hardly while playing altissimo.. hmm... how do i explane it.... hmm.. dont use the same embouchure that u`ll using for blowing normal notes.. u have to strightend up ur lips... then bite ur mouthpiece a little bit... hehe... i hope u can understand... |

try for an high A first! For Alto and i guess Tenor, use the 2nd and 3rd keys with the octave key. U can't play altissimo by playing like u normally would. u have to manipulate your mouth and airstream. Try smiling and push up a little with your bottom lip. i can hit it easily with a weak reed (2 1/2 superial d.c. ) it took me a while to play it for the first time..make yourself hurt from trying and if your desperate buy a weaker reed. Try play the A note over and over..its the easiest. Here's what helped me when i was trying to play altissimo. http://www.saxlessons.com/altissimo.htm |

it works best, and easier, if you use a 2 or 2.5 strength reed. Below that and they're too soft to manipulate, above and you need incredible muscle strength to pull that off. rich |
