I was just wondering what your process is and what stuff you use when you oil your slide.

Welllllp

i don't use oil. In fact, i hate oil with a passion. I'm more for the cream and water.

if you're talking about cream, then you dab about two fingertips worth of cream on the end of each inner slide.. and spray well. then work it in for about 5 mins. then you have a very well lubricated slide.

If you use to much.. it makes your action shit. Which is a very common mistake for "newbs" lol.

Much love, -Adam.

I just use oil, it's cheap and it works, but knowing how cheap it is I have to re-oil everytime before I play. I usually, without squeezing the bottle, run the tip of the oil bottle along each tube of the inner slide once, work the oil into the slide for a couple minutes, good to go after that. I actually havent tried the cream before, but I hear it works hella good.

Cream works amazing. Its because the water and the cream join together to form millions of little bubbles which act as tiny ball bearings. Makes your slide sooo nice.

I have a bottle of liquid cream should i jus spread that along the whole slide...or should i just put some at the end and spray the rest with water?

only the end of the inner slides where it gets a little bigger. It's call the Stocking of the slide. When you use the cream use only a little bit and rub it all over the Stocking until it turns clear. They you spray the slide with water.

I bought this stuff the other day called SUPERSLKICK trombone slide oil. It says it's "special formula" . Anyone else try this stuff?

I use super slick slide cream and spray water, from my own experiences, it works the best. The liquid slide cream is decent but yo have to re-apply too much.

*****NOTE*****
if you currently are using oil, be VERY VERY careful about switching to cream...Some tend to have a chemical reaction betweenteh oil and cream, and u get a doughy like "junk" all in the slide. Jeff Owen informed me of this.

That happened to mine. But does it do any harm or does it just make it all nasty?

Im pretty sure it jsut makes it all nasty and the easiest thing to do would ahve it chemically cleaned professionally, stores like Willis do that but its very expensive. But also i dont kno of any way to clean it off because its never happened to me

i have a system for oiling

oil, then wipe it off
prep with water and then put on cream
work in cream for a while
then add a couple drops of the special oil stuff that comes in the super slick oiling packages, then more water
work it in some more
then put more oil on
last bit a water

and.... presto!

it lasts forever!!! i havent had to redo it in 3 months, and i play every day, slickest stuff ever

I am suprised no one has said anything about trobotine slide cream. it is so much better than oil and is better than other creams.

i use either yamaha slide cream or the superslick trombone cream, it is so much better than oil, my process is:
every week, i cleen off the slide with water and a soft cloth, next i take a very small amount of slide cream and work it in on the stockings, then spray it with water and work in with outer slide
every month, i take my outer slide and put luke warm water in it with a couple of drops of dish soap, and you shake this around for a while, next you take a trombone snake and run it through a couple times, drain the water out and rinse it out untill there are no more bubbles, then take the cleaning rod and rap some gozze around it and get the rest of the dirt out and repeat the regular cream process.

i would like to say that i really dont like the silicone drops you get with the superslick pack, it really gumms up my slide.

Yeah, if you use "Slide o Mix" don't let it freeze, if it gets frozen, once its melted, it is total crap. And it sticks like no other.

I use it quite a bit, just make sure you have a clean Tbone.

Yeah trombontine is the best, i only have to put some on about every month or so (after i clean the slide of course), and it still slides really well even if you don't put water on it. Of course it slides even better if you do.

hmm
i'm kinda a newb...
but what i was told by my friends who've been playin for like 6-7 years is to take sum oil... al cass, my experience with superslick left me with so many microparticles sticking it up it wasn't funny... and, after cleaning the crap offa the slide til it's dry, apply oil down each tube until they're coated, then work it in... if there's any trouble spots, sticky spots on certain positions, just go back over that part of the slide with sum more oil...
they told me not to use cream of any sort cause it's all crap...
but i do have sum superslick in a white container... just can't figure out if that'd involve water or not... didn't say...

all you have to do RCT is apply a bit of the superslick, work it in, then spray with water. the oil versus cream seems like maybe its a regional thing. i know that not a single trombonist in my school uses oil. they all use superslick, no questions asked. ive never heard of trombotine, but there was one kid who used slide o mix, and that stuff seems good.

I (as a German) use other German stuff. It's called "Reka Superslide". It's an oil, quite similair to "Slide-O-Mix". By the way, there is also a one component oil which is called "Slide-O-Mix". It is from the same company, but the color of the bottle is black-white (the two component stuff is red-white).

I'm verry happy with superslide. In fact, I use oil because I'm too lazy to use cream. Putting on the oil is less work.
