hey, thiss has probably been discussed already , but I was wondering if anyone could tell me how ska players eg: less than jake make the "metalic buzzing" sound when playing trumpet , when I play mostly i get a mellower sound even when i over blow... thanks

are you talking about just you playing? because they probably get that metallic buzzing sound because they have more than one person, and thats usually what gives it that sound. so i would think if you had a different selection of instruments then it would probably give it that cool sound

Get a shallower mouthpiece, it'll make your trumpet sound brighter. Also, try a straight mute or a cup mute.

A shallower mouthpiece will also help you play a little higher. Don't go for the 14a4a lead mouthpieces with really shallow cups, their tone isn't great, especially in the high register. If you play a 7c; try a 7e, 7ew, or a 5sv, they're a little shallower than the 7c and have about the same cup diameter.

dude - less than jake have trombones and saxophone. no trumpet. this might be why you dont get the metallic noise. also there are more of them an only one of you.

11C4-7C is a yamaha mouthpiece which is almost identical to the Bach 7C.
