Yes, there seems to now be an official release date for Keasbey Nights, As Performed By Streetlight Manifesto on an estimated March 7, 2006!

According to Wikipedia, it's gonna be a re-recording of the orginal Keasbey Nights, with some musical and lyrical changes, along with at least 2 new songs, I'm inferring, since they've been giving teases at concerts, and "have recorded 2 at the Crazy Donkey in Farmingdale, NY."

BOTAR is supposedly releasing their next album at the same time as well. Can't wait!

Well I am looking forward to the BOTAR album if that release is happening. As for the Keasby Nights, I think it's retarded but atleast with streetlight playing it you will finally hear the saxophone [now there's 2!]. The two new songs might be good but I am not getting my hopes up.

Yeah, I'd have to say I'd be a little disappointed if it was simply Keasbey Nights (undoubtedly souped up of course). I'm sure they'll throw in a few new songs though.

The thing I don't understand is why so many people are soo excited for Keasby Nights to be redone by Streetlight. I didn't think it was that amazing to start with so why does it need to be redone. Well actually I don't understand why so many people have a complete obsession for Tomas. I've heard people call him a genious and everything but I defiantely don't see him in that light. Anyone want to enlighten me on this topic?

I understand what you mean Kevin -- when Keasbey Nights was first released a long time ago, it was considered "the" best ska album ever (to most), and I think people kept that notion embedded in their mind. Personally, it still is my second favorite album (next to Everything Goes Numb) because the music just seems to have more catchy melodies or something... They certainly do not have the "sold-out" sound (which is a very good thing) that many bands do seem to have.

And I personally respect Tomas a lot as well because he writes music and lyrics outstandingly well, in my opinion.

Yea, the horn parts are amazing compared to other ska bands. If you examine his lyrics, you get a feel for why people respect them. They are incredibly well thought-out, and Everything Goes Numb fits together like an album should! I'm looking forward to this, because if any of you heard Streetlight do Keasbey Nights mixed in with Point/Counterpoint, they improved it quite a bit. The BOTAR album should be great too.

I agree, I think one of the key reasons for Tomas' incredible lyrics are because they were written intelligently, and each of the songs actually has a meaning, or even a story. Like all of the names mentioned in Here's to Life, for example, were real writers, supposedly Tomas' favorites, most of who just happened to have violent deaths/suicides.

You don't see that kind of stuff in the crappy Black Eyed Peas or any other of today's incredibly stupid pop artists.

Yeah, I'm listening to it now. Here's the link. I downloaded all of the songs. So far, the songs are really well done, but I don't see anything new. No worries though, I still have my doubts that it's really them. It's still my beloved band. I will still support them and buy the album.

Oh, here's the link I have that has all of the songs.

I am a bit skeptical that this is really them as well. The recording quality doesn't seem 100% done. I downloaded the whole CD using bittorrent. 1234 is changed majorly at the end. Someone talks about why they made the CD and how they don't care if they sell any and such. about 2 minutes worth of it on that song. I think maybe someone hacked into the computer and stole the songs if anything and the recordings aren't 100% done. I would hope. No New songs that I found.... dissapointing. but still going to buy the CD to show my support.

streetlight manifesto, i have heard, will release both keasbey nights and another original album around march so thats why there are no originals on KN.

also i think this downloaded version is not the final release. there are some sound quality issues as well as musical mistakes that will be dealt with before the official release.

Although the trombone solo in walking away kicks ass compared to the catch 22 version.

wow someone hacked them and changed shitin their songs how elaborate... I think they just havent finished mastering the songs n shit cause obviously it is them no one would go this far in trying to decieve u. AFTERALL it is a LEAKED copy most likely they werent done it yet. Notice how the band hasnt released ne thing saying it would be delayed or watever cause they probably dont give a shit afterall it is just Keasby nights again and if u listened to the computer-interview-thing it explains shit about catch 22 trying to release Keasby Nights with some new pictures and a new book, so he said that would be bullshit spending 13 bucks for new pictures. So they said we care about OUR fans and they deserve a completey rerecorded copy (basically that is the jist) --- horns sound sooooo goood expecially the solos

I downloaded this album about an hour ago, I am currently on Kristina.

Here's my input.

Catch 22 really got me into ska. Keasbey Nights was one of the first ska albums I ever heard, and I loved it. I still do, even if it gets a tad old after years of listening to.

First of all, I really don't think any of us have a right to say how dumb of an idea it is for Tomas to re-do this album. He wrote the songs; I can understand that he would want to make something better. Most musicians are perfectionists, and to at least try to make something better is a valiant effort, even if it doesnt exactly work out.

It's definetly fun to listen to the songs and hear whats changed. Some of the new horn solos are absolutely sick. That trombone player, Mike Soprano, is nuts. He's got a cool style.

The sax section definetly sounds real tight as compared to the alto sax on the original keasbey nights.

Not feeling the trumpet player, or at least the recording of it. I'm not sure if its Egan or the new guy, but it sounds like he staccatos every note, it bothers me. His solos are pretty good though.

One thing that makes the album...well...weird, is the fact that it's so professional sounding. That professional sound fit in with "Everything Goes Numb" because musically the album was more complex then stuff Kalnoky had previously written.

Keasbey Nights was originally very sloppy...some out of tune notes here or there, some minor slips and shakes, and I don't think anyone knew what the fuck Kalnoky said besides, well, Kalnoky. And...I loved every minute of that album. The roughness and sloppy aspect gave it a more "real" feel or something. It's weird hearing the songs played with such precision and cleanliness. Not necissarily a bad thing, just different.

I think it's definetly worth a listen. I'm gonna buy it just to support Kalnoky -- the man has done so much for the dying/dead ska scene. And all their shit got stolen, that just plain sucks.

I am more excited to hear new SM and BOTAR material, but this is definetly not a waste. Continue posting on here what you guys think of it, I'm curious as to what the general ska community thinks about it.

Sorry for the length of this message

Peace

The Pope, there's a link posted above to MP3s of the songs.

I hear what you guys are saying about the "clean/processed" sound, but I don't know, it's still really not that "clean" (which is a good thing) in my opnion. The first time I listened to SM's Keasbey Nights, I noticed more mistakes/slopiness than Catch 22's recording. But maybe it's just me or something.

Regardless, I'm loving the saxes more and more, especially on Day In Day Out. And the bass lines are sweet too, especially in Walking Away and Keasbey Nights.

i realize this is off-topic, but maybe it's not.

i get a little pissed when people get all "everything went numb" and "keasbey" are the best ska albums ever (respectively) etc.etc.

have you all forgotten the mighty mighty bosstones?
they have priceless material and they are no doubt ancestors of excellent bands like catch22/streetlight

also, while i vent, the new CD came with a sticker that said it was for ska fans of "reel big fish" and "less than jake"

i just thought, wow, tools.

sorry and peace

Ah, I did not see the link. Thank you!

Oh, and RedRiot, I would say that Bosstones released some of the best transitional second to third wave albums. But in many people's mind those are the best 3rd wave ska albums, just because they are what 3rd wave ska is. Not saying Bosstones aren't amazing, but they tend not to have much of the punk sound which defines 3rd wave. More 2 tone/Trad.

I agree with the tool remark. Since LTJ has no horns anymore, and RBF is more rock based now (although they still do all their old songs at concerts, and since they broke with their label, hopefully will be going back to more Horn/Ska related material).
