I wouldn't switch because you feel that the Tenor is more ska. It can work great on alto. Plus it is alot harder to develope a nice tone on the Tenor so for what you may think is a smart switch it may be safer to stay on alto because you probably have a better tone. Either that or you can play both. I play tenor but I do like the sound of an alto in ska [our bari player switches to give a happier brighter tone to some songs and a higher voice] I double on clarinet [did you ever think that was ska] The tenor is an amazing sax but please dont switch just for the sake of you thinking it is more ska. I would understand if you played Bari and wanted to switch because Barit isn't a melody sax. I don't even know why I went on that for so long. Oh and by the way, is Krebs actually your name [last I would assume] sorry but it's the biology nerd inside of me that is wondering.

nope, i just love the studies of han krebs, or whatever his first name was....not really, but yeah, my last name is krebs, which everyone calls me....except when they use alternates like, krebcake, krebby, or justinkrebsible (justin is my first name, haha)
but anyway.... i haven't developed a good tone at all yet on alto sax, i just started last month, so i decided to switch before i got too involved...
and yes, i know an awesome ska band with clarinet... but it only goes good with certain vocals...

yeah I don't know Krebs' first name either but he has a whole cycle named after him so he must be cool. So yeah, if you just started the Alto sax then you are fine. I would suggest playing the Tenor anyway because I love the Tenor and it is just the best sax [awesome range, just the right amount of curves, a man] plus it will be more of a challenge and I think you will become a better player on all saxes by playing the Tenor. I love clarinet in ska but you are right about it only going well with certain stylings. I only play it here and there. I play a random clarinet solo in one song and he has the main melody in a chillling kind of easy going song and if my pirate song it a go, I will play clarinet in there aswell. Does the band with the clarinet have a myspace page or any way that I could check them out. I would love to hear it.

Guys, all the sax players here are saying you want more tabs for sax. Well, the thing is, you're the sax players. So get writing yourselves!

Write as many as you know and someone might just benefit from them, and someone benefitting from the tabs might decide to write the tabs you want.

I be sax player also, but switching to trumpet.

I play Alto in Soul Regatta (check out soulregatta.com or our myspace at myspace.com/soulregatta or the band forum about us) and have been at it since 5th grade (just finished 9th) and want to double on bari. I do have about 4 mo. of experience on contralto clarinet (A BEAST) from 8th grade which was pretty fun, but I think I will like bari better. I just posted the Riding the Fourth Wave by Streetlight Manifest and have memorized the kristina solo, workin on turing that into tabs. KEEP TABBIN, POSTIN, AND SKANKIN!!! -Mark

Hey! I play Tenor! I have been playing for about 5 years. Just learned about this site from a friend who plays trombone. I have to say that I would never switch from tenor. I started on alto and (sorry altos) I absolutly hated it... don't know why tenor is different for me. I played bari for like a week. I liked it, but it just didn't fit me.
Much love guys!

i love my tenor, i played clarinet in stupid jr. high for two years, then alto, i became a man the day i got my tenor, i've played a bari but i sucked at it, i'd like to own and alto and a sapprano, but my tenor cost me enough, but i may get an alto this weekend at some weird hands on sax give away for an alto, we all grab it, who ever holds on the longest wins, these competitions go all night.

I play a bunch of stuff, but sax is my primary instrument and any sax that comes my way is ok with me, I started on tenor, went to bari, picked up soprano, and switched to alto for university. Backwards, I know. I'm from Pickering, Ontario, in Canada. I don't know how many Canadians we have on this site, but oh well, at least one. Pickering is just barely outside Toronto, which I'm sure you've heard of, so you know where I am. When I'm not playing sax I hunt seal and ride my polar bear around, anything to get out of the igloo you know. Ya, sorry, bad sterotype, but I just say it because I have seriously been asked stuff like that on numerous occasions.
