I play trumpet and bass in a rock band. We're not very good and I'm trying to convert them all to ska, but no luck so far.

I am in the school's Senior Jazz and Senior Concert bands. In a Youth Symphony Orchestra [playing the bassoon part on the T.Sax] and I have a ska band that is pretty sweet [I would give the myspace but we don't have any songs up yet so it is pretty pointless, I post it when we have things recorded] I play Tenor sax in them all but I am currently working on integrating my clarinet playing into my ska band.

I play trombone for marching, baritone for concert and the trumpet for the city's Honor Band.
I also go to comunnity jazz band rehearsals when I have the time.
I play the clarinet for that.
I help out with a local elementary/middle school orchestra.
I also play bass for a jam group.
I used to play horns for a ska band until my mom told me it's a waste of my time.

Symphonic, marching band, and Wind Ensemble here. I'm also in a ska band, but we're on a standstill right now until summer due to our guitarist being on swim team in which he has practice everyday til just about the end of the year..

I'm still trying to decide between Jazz or Symphonic for next year, but I'm thinking Jazz.

I dont know what Symphonic means? My school only has a Band and a Stage Band. I live in Cornwall Ontario. Its a very small town. Our school is pretty small too. We don't have enough kids to even play in our Band and Stage Band, let alone start a marching band. I'd love to be in a marching band tho. And almost all of the players suck in our band. I'm really good compared to all of them. We have like a good drummer, a good trumpet player(me), a good alto and 1 tenor sax, and a good bassist in the band. But thats it! all the others are bad. I wouldnt mind it if they took there music home and practiced hard until they played good, but they dont! and all of us good players suffer because of them I wish we had more ppl at our school so we could actually have a decent band. Our stage band is not bad, but it coul be a lot better.

I'm gonna be starting a ska band to. I'm so pumped for it. Bummer is, we only have a guitarist, whos really good, the same drummer guy from band, and me. were tring to find a good bass, but the guy who plays in band cant really write his own lines, and hes not that interested in ska, so im not gonna pressure anyone into joining. The guitarist, tho, has 1 person who just quit a band that might convert to ska lmao. Thatd be great. and id love to have a Boner to back me up. Its nice going solo, but id rather have someone else in the horn section to help me out. Iuono about saxiphonist tho. and there I go rambling on again.

Baritone in the marching band and the wind ensemble...
just added recently as 2nd Trombone for jazz... since I only picked it up and learned how to play it this year after playing baritone for 6...
for an area like mine with so many talented musicians... u'd think it'd be kinda easy to piece together a ska band... but it's the damn scene that prevents that... as well as a shortage of good bassists and guitarists that have free time...

i hear ya on the lack of ppl... next year, with the senior drop in account, we're relying on the incoming freshmen for #s... take low brass... in all, there'll be 2 tubas, 2 baritones, and 1 trombone... plus any incoming freshmen...

as far as practicing... if the music's not fun to play, not too many ppl would wanna practice... like i never practice my parts, and sound sumwhat alright... but then again, barely any1 in low brass practices... lol
