| Anybody know if its possible to make trumpet effects like guitar palys do? If you have seen the band Zox (ska/reggae/rock/indie/whatever band from Rhode Island) you know that their violin player hooked up his violin to a bunch of effects pedals and does crazy awesome stuff with it. I was wondering if you can do something similar with a trumpet, like hook up your trumpet mic to the effect pedals and make awesome effects with it? Anybody ever try it? | ||

| I personally use my Silent Brass practice mute, connected to a digital delay pedal. It's fun to play around with. | ||

are the silent brass mutes any good? I finally just got around to buying a practise mute, and it's really not quiet enough for my needs. is my trumpet just particularly loud? I couldn't bring myself to spend the extra cash on the silent brass mute, but if it's really silent I would!

The Silent Brass is good for when I need to practice till the late night, but it's something I definately do not spend too much time on. However, it gets the job done nicely though. |

| One of the trumpet players at school brought his Silent Brass a few times, and it's definitely almost silent. I've never tried one, but as Marty said, I probably woluldn't use it often unless I was practicing late at night and didn't want to bother the neighbors. | ||

| I saw the sousaphone player from the Dirty Dozen Brass Band hook his horn up through a bass amp, and he sounded exactly like a bass guitar....would that help? | ||

| Flea, the bassist for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, occasionally plays trumpet, often during their live shows. On their album Live In Hyde Park, he plays this really cool improv distortion solo. It sounds like he was playing into a mic and somehow routing the signal through a guitar (the title of the track is Flea's Trumpet Treated By John; John is their guitarist). You can hear some strumming and stuff sometimes, but mostly it's just got some sick wah-wah and distortion. So yeah it's definitely possible, but I've never tried it personally. That kind of equipment (wah pedal, mic, amp, etc.) is too expensive for my taste. | ||
