hya i just had a big problem with squeeky sax syndrome. every other time id play without t he octave key, i'd jump up say 6notes,. i remember a D to the A above strongly, even tho i was pressing the correct keys and so on. ive let my embouchure flag a bit, now im paying the consequences. how can u keep your emb. and improve it? rather than playing it lots, are there any quicker ways, cos i dont have a month to get better again.. |

The only thing that i could think of is to start on the lowest note you can hit(if you have a good range, its low Bb) and then proceed up to say....maybe the high c. going up chromatically..then down...then back up...start slowly..and as you get furhter along...speed it up until you have reached the speed where you are at maybe sixteenth notes...do this at about 112 on a metronome and youre squeeking should cease..or occur less.

| Get someone else to play your sax to make sure it is you and not your sax. Your sax could have gotten really fucked up some how so don't discount that because what you are saying sounds weird. If it is you, do long tones up and down and yeah play some fast melodies and make sure you are not squeeking. Sqeeking definately sucks. I don't think that an embouchure can really go that down hill. Also maybe check the set up. If the embouchure has gone down hill you may want some softer reeds or something to bridge the gap between where you are and where you were. Play around. good luck. | ||

found out what it was i was playing 2.5 and 3 reeds. i built up my embouchure to that. Then it disappeared. It went down, but i'm just about there, it just sucks that it happened now, i'm supposed to be learning the lower altisimmo octaves, pah. and the neck was strained a little. But thats sorted. I think. o well, thanks for the help. rich |

Do mouthpiece exercises. Take your mouthpiece off the sax, and play the highest note you can. Then by moving your jaw drop a semitone and keep doing that until you can't go down any further. Then go back up, and just keep doing it. It may annoy some people in your house, but it is a great exercise.
