I have a music audition at a college in about a week.

Any tips and/or help?

I haven't chosen any pieces to play yet, any help in that area would be cool too.

Thanks!

Oh shit man. You're in trouble.

Find out what you have to play for the audition, they'll have list on their website showing audition requirements.

I don't think you have enough time, but practice your ass off, and then don't play much the day before your audish, and warm up lightly the day of. Don't kill your chops.

Which college are you applying for?

Well if you can, my best advice is to audition at the college you want to get into least, first. Do this so that you lose all your nerves, and it doesnt matter as much if you get in there. Otherwise, go downtown and play in front of a lot of people walking by. Mainly, just try not to be nervous. Think of it this way, "Play to show off, don't play to try and not make a mistake."

btw, what college you auditioning for?

Good luck!

i just read that you needed to pick a piece too. That crazy, you have a week to prepare a high level piece that would take even the best players a few weeks to master. I suggest either Concert Etude, or the Hindemith.

Haha, yeah. I am the biggest procrastinating son of a bitch ever. That's alright though.

The requirements are just scales, which I already know, and three pieces of my choice.

I figure I'll play my audition piece for All-State (Kurt Kennan's Sonata, 1st Movement), then maybe a song from my bop duet book. I'm not sure about the 3rd song, maybe Spanish Flea, by Herb Alpert. The college website said to prepare 3 pieces of varying styles.

I'm auditioning for a music scholarship at York College, in Pennsylvannia. I figure I'll move over to a big music school after 4 years in a regular music program.

Anywho. Thanks for the help thus far!

Peace

I think they mean three pieces in the classical idiom. Is it a classical performance program?

No. The program is called the "MIRT" program (Music Industry & Recording Technology). Apparently is has very similar performance requirements as a performance major, however there are also classes that have to do with...music industry, and recording technology I suppose. Haha I barely know.

I just figured since their site said 3 pieces with contrasting and varied styles that they would want genres from all over the board. That would really suck if they wanted 3 classical pieces; jazz is definetly my stronger point.
