Well I dont know if anyone has heard of Youngblood Brass Band but they are really good. But they have a sousaphone player named Nate and he does these weird things and he makes his sousaphone sound like a turn table. Songs like The Trilogy vs. Dj Skooly and The Warrior Comes Out to Play are examples of this. I just dont understand how the hell he does it, some kind of distortion?

He's been playing long enough. When he was younger, he probably screwed around with his instrument (I guarentee he did, sousaphone music is so damn boring).

Another thing I'm screwing around with is the use of effects pedals and different kinds of effects processors running through my horn. He might have done something like that. Who knows?

A musician must be experimental by nature.

Yea I'd like to get ahold of him some way and ask him because some of the things he does are amazing. Back to the chord subject. How in the hell do you play chords on your trumpet?!

I'll tell you in one week, but I want you to try and figure it out yourself first.

I'll be mighty impressed with you if you manage to do so. Give it a shot.

I'll give you a clue. There's no changes in embouchure or anything. To play chords, you don't have to change anything in your face.

This guy does it very very well, try to learn from him.

Multiphonics. I can only do it on trombone. James Morrison is good too. Check him on www.trumpetstuff.com. Try humming a note you want, but playing a note below it as a start.

I really don't like the way that chord thing sounds on trumpet. Just my opinion though.

As far as the guy from the Youngblood Brass Band, it sounds like he's just doing combinations of flutter/double/triple tonguing while pushing the valves half in.

It's an aquired taste, but definately something you can add to spice up your improvisations.

I recently discovered multiphonics, they're alright but I personally like flutter tongueing. But if you wanna do something wierd, scream or shreik through your horn. It sounds kinda stupid but the spontaniety of it works well, especially if you do it during a short rest (don't try this in a classical piece). By the way, nice work on 200 posts Marty.
