Hi Guys, 1. I am from Australia, I want to play the alto sax and was wondering what model and price range i should be looking for. I dont want anything flash until I learn properly. I still want something that soounds good though 2. What are some good alto sax players I can learn from (preferably from the modern era). 3. This may sound dumb, but what is a "SKA" band/player. Thanks |

ok well if youre looking for a sax that sounds good but doesnt kill ya financially, check out some of the yamaha selections or selmer. You will probably be looking at around 900 to 2000 dollars, depending on the quality. As for your other question, Charlie Parker, Orenette Colemae, Jessica Spinella, Phil Woods and Art Pepper are all great alto players. And ska, Ska is a form of Jamaican music which began in the early 1960s. Combining elements of traditional mento and calypso with an American jazz and rhythm and blues sound, it was a precursor in Jamaica to rocksteady and later reggae. It is the predominant form of music listened to by Rudeboys, Mods, and Skinheads, amongst others, with artists such as Symarip, Laurel Aitken, The Charmers and The Pioneers aiming songs at these groups as far back as the 1960s. It is basically just reggae kinda stuff with horns. Truly a great type of music. Hope I was at least a little bit of help. Ben
