| Hey, i'm from the outer suburbs of sydney and i've just started getting back into ska in the past couple of months and i've been disapointed as to the limited ska scene around. Apart from a few big name acts (Reel Big Fish and Mad Caddies) i can't really find any good ska venues or gigs or anything. Does anyone know of any? | ||

i know they aren't australian, but is New Zealand ok? That's a lot closer than say USA or anywhere else in the northern hemisphere i've found a band called Monkey Puzzle, supposed to be a top NZ Ska act in NZ. I arent sure whether they're still together, but check out www.peoplesound.com and search for Monkey Puzzle, that any good? But i don't know any gigs or venues though..

| Heh, New Zealand is still a bit far... it'd take about 3-4 hours for me to fly there from sydney. Thanks anyway! | ||

Look at www.soundslikechicken.com.au. Sounds like Chicken are a heavy-ish ska band from vic (I put a thread about them in the band forum) they're definitely worth a go, and The Tall Poppies or The Travelling Slacks, one of them's good and the other's ordinary but I'll have to check that. Good luck trying to find them though, I sometimes hear about gigs the day or week after and spend the rest of the day kicking myself. I'll keep this thread updated as I hear stuff. |

| Sounds Like Chicken is doing a gig in Sydney! The all-ages one is at St James Anglican Church, corner of Highbury St and Liverpool Rd, Croydon on Friday, 2nd of June. It's with Wishful Thinking, they're good but not Ska. There's also an 18+ gig the day before at Spectrum nightclub on Oxford Street. More details TBA on their website. | ||

Yeah I don't know much about Area 7 but they are Australian and they put out an album on 1/1/06 so I can probably get it and see if they're good. Also I want to mention that sLc have some songs on their myspace site if anyone wants a preview (but they're much better live) also The Porkers are another Aussie ska band and Son of Dad is a ska band from SA. I don't think there's any upcoming gigs but any one though (apart from sLc)

Man, if your looking for pure Aussie briliance check out the Cat Empire, they are kinda ska/latin/funk fusion. The best album is their 1st which is self titled The Cat Empire, but cities and two shoes is better than you run of the mill chart stuff. Can't wait to see them when they come to Bristol in August. |

| Yeah, the Cat Empire is fuckin awesome. They put on what I think is the best live show I have ever seen; do yourself a favor and check them out. | ||
