im a trumpet player....i dont really know why i say that, i also play clarinet, trombone, drums, and sax. from now on ill just say im a musician. but i bought a soprano for really cheep. and it works. like a sax player complained that it was outta tune...but when i play i tune fine. i guess im just used to having to put my mouth differently for every note. but i never hear about soprano players. on here, i mean. so are there any of you out there? personally id like a tenor or bari sax...but ill take what i can get. for $120

I'd mess around with a soprano for $120. That's pretty damn cheap. I play Tenor and love it but it defiantely wasn't $120. I've only ever played one note on a soprano. It was my teachers. I played one note and then put it into the garbage but then I took it out before anyone realized. I can't say I like sopranos much.

I play soprano in a Dixieland band on occasion. I enjoy it...but damn, if that sax doesn't have the ugliest tone ever sometimes. I have to work to get a decent sound out. When you get lazy, the tone gets REALLY nasally and if the sax isn't in tune oh boy you've got yourself a musical Holocaust going on.

Please, soprano players: before playing, TUNE your instrument. If the mouthpiece is too loose on the cork, wrap some scotch tape around it so that it will stay on. There are few things in this world worse than an out of tune soprano.

I have a soprano but don't often have time to play it as trumpet is my main instrument. Most people don't like soprano that I've talked to, and I sort of wish that I had gotten a tenor instead. However, soprano sax, like tenor, makes it easy to play trumpet music from and that is what initially got me interested because I hate transposing, even tho it isn't hard.

My friend let me borrow his soprano instrument recently and its one of the funnest instruments i have played (then again all saxes are )

When I first started playing it, it sounded really ugly and the high notes sounded really bad and it was hard to get right.

But then after jamming on it for about an hour, I was finally able to get a very decent sound out. It takes practice and getting used to having a different embouchere (sp?) for each note will just come along.

All in all, dont give up at first cause it WILL sound ugly for a first timer (except for skajunkie here ) . The sound you get when it is actually decent is really nice and vibrato is so well pronounced on it.

But I always have troubles switching back to tenor and alto cause my finger got used to the small keys and mouth piece. They made the alto keys seem gargantuan !

Anyway, have fun with your soprano.

yeah, i still pick it up sometimes. i tried recording with it and...between the cheap mic, my inability to tune (my bro has a nice tuner that i could have used...they were long tones and...the tuner was with his girlfriend.)...an old reed and lack of practice we decided to scratch that track. lol. and...i wish i had a tenor. they all cost too much though. i fugure ill get one (a nice one) when im older or something. i dont have much need for it anyway. its just...wicked fun.

If you paid $120 for a soprano, then how are you getting it in tune? What kind is it? Most of the time soprano's are never in tune, no matter how hard you try. If you want a good soprano thats in tune, your better off paying over 2,000 for one. It'll be worth it in the end.

oh no, it's not even a yamaha. i think it's some beginner ...it tunes with work. i had it out last week quite a bit(spring break) and...some of the high notes were really sharp. but...i was able to open my jaw enough. oh yeah..in response to something about out of tune sopranos...the only thing worse is an out of tune picclo ...talk about undescribable agony
