I'm a complete new guy with the trumpet. I don't even have one yet, but I will in like two days. Do you guys have any helpful tips or advice about basic things? Or know any websites that give the basics. What kind of troubles did you have when first learning? I'm probably going to take lessons eventually, but what do I need to know now as a beginner? |

| Take lessons as soon as you can. If this is something you want to pursue then you should get off on the correct foot. Don't expect to be Maynard the first day. Lessons will help, a lot. It takes a long time to be a great player. Good skill. | ||

| I thought about taking lessons right away... but from experience with guitar I hate taking lessons from the first step. When your completely foreign to the instrument they're too pushy. I prefer to learn the basics of it myself at my own pace. Then go in for lessons and see what I need to work on. | ||

| It is your choice but the reason they are so pushy is to get the basics right off of the bat. Once you have mastered the basics you will have a lot more freedom. If you learn something that is incorrect and practice it then you have learned something that you think is correct and to correct it you must unlearn it and then relearn the new way. This may end up taking more time then just starting off on the correct foot. The real question you want to answer is how good do you want to be? Private lessons help greatly. | ||

Yea, but you can't master the basics in a week. I think lessons are great but not as a first step. I'd rather be taught harder techniques than the basics. Not rushed through the basics just to get to the fun stuff, i'm not in any hurry. So far I found one helpful site to learn some basic things.. http://www.8notes.com/trumpet/ Does anyone else know any? |
