| How often do you write songs? At the moment my band is writing one a week which is pretty cool. They are the best songs we have written too and we take around 2-3 hours to write each one. I am also wondering what your process for songwriting is and, if you are in a ska band, if each song you write changes genre within ska music eg one song is two tone the next 3rd wave. | ||

well, me and my a couple peoples in the band get to getther and write stuff, our drummer and sax player are alsway busy, so its usually me (trombone) our gitarist our bassist and your singer/guitar player who write stuff, we get about the a song a week. We start off with the style we try to make it, then usually either start of with a horn line or ocassioanally a base line, then we add in all the other parts, then lyrics comes last. for genre wise, we're all over the place, we have 2 tone to third wave to acoustic to regae to pirates or somthing random like that, so ya, we're everywhere

| our songs take 4eva to write. The lyrics and music take about 15 minutes each. Its just...like...getting them to come together. We do it really haphazardly too. The drummer and I will write tons of lyrics, and the guitarist will come up with a guitar and horn riff he likes the sound of, then we'll kind of slap two together and hope it comes out well. If it doesnt work, we take em apart and try again. The biggest thing that keeps us from cranking out music is lack of practice. As I said in another post, we practice maybe a couple times a month. We try to get once a week, but that never happens. Oh well. | ||

| we wrote 7 songs in a week once, and they're still our best, now we're having just i guess musician's block and we crank out one every two weeks....but we're working on this one 12 minute long song i dare to compare to the decline but with more reggae | ||

Mostly its me (trumpeter) and our guitarist who write lyrics and we usually start off with the the horn parts first and then everyone thinks of a riff that works with it. REMEMBER: if you decide to not use a tune, keep hold of it cos it may come in useful for another song.

yeah, what we did was put all of our pieces of songs in a mess of a bigger song, it came out pretty good... i would liken it to a not as good but ska version of the decline. another thing we do is play pieces of songs we never made into actual songs in between when we're playing somewhere...it keeps the flow of the show going and i think it's pretty cool |

| well...im not precisely in a band....me and my bro write some ska. like...i dunno. all we did was make up music. im not sure we thought about it too much. of course...on one part he went through and wrote out the chords on finale so he could see them...i dunno. as for genres....is kinda just like..we write stuff that has horns...and upbeats...and...fun. | ||
