Forum - General discussion - I have this strange feeling...

...that Sander doesn't plan on coming back any time soon. So, I've noticed the 'Tab Requests' section becoming quite, well, unaffective because they're not being posted on the site. I have an idea for this and it can work in a number of ways. People who have the tabs and have submitted them and are waiting the approval, I suggest one of these methods:

1. Make a new thread in this forum section with the name of the band and song in it and include the tab only when posting.
2. Make one thread for 'completed' tabs and the only people allowed to post in there are people who have tabbed the song and are sharing it.

-OR (probably the best idea)-

3. If someone has completed a tab, post it in the 'Tab Requests' section under the song that they tabbed.

I only suggest this because it doesn't seem like any of the tabs being submitted are actually being put on the site. So in the mean time, we can choose one (and only one - for organisational reasons) of these methods for keeping the tabs coming. Keep in mind we'll need everyone's cooperation to keep this from getting confusing and annoying. Just follow the rules and things should flow smoothly. I'm open to suggestions as well. This is only an idea, remember. I'd like to hear what you guys have to say about it.

Cheers!

Yup. I've got that feeling as well. Maybe we could e-mail him...

As for your suggestions, I think that the #3 one would be good but perhaps just make a thread in the Tab Requests section and give it the name of the band rather than the name of the song and each new post can have the song title at the top.

It'll be funny when (/if) Sander returns. He'll think we've mutinied.

I like this idea quite a bit, new tabs are fun, maybe this is a test, to see how smart we are, i say we do, this could be a valuable life lesson, if no one is running the business, all of us combine and we'll all be leaders

3 sounds good to me as well. If this works out, which it should, Horntabs will turn semi-self-sufficient while he's away.

If you do that I will delete every one of those threads.

The forum isn't a place to post tabs. We've got a place for that. Just be patient, relax, and learn some tunes by ear. Nothing's gonna happen to you.

What's the matter marty? Sander's been gone for god knows how long [months upon months] and people are still requesting tabs. In the meantime why can't we just post them in the corrosponding thread? I guess I'd just like a bit more of an explanation before I blatently obey every word you have to say.

And since when do you have the power to delete threads? And why haven't you used it before to erase a lot of the mindless threads already around here? I like how you automatically choose tabs to erase after we all know that this is what the site is for.

The forum isn't a place to post tabs. Sander will be back. In the mean time, we have to keep some order around here. We can't be getting too disorganized here.

I don't check every forum, so I'm probably not the greatest moderator, I'll admit that. But I've had this power for a couple months now. And on the old forum for a couple months before it was closed.

It's a completely organised fashion in which we're dealing with the tabs. The person who posts them, posts them in the corrosponding request. How disorganised is that?

We were only planning on doing this until he did get back. Then, once he is, we can re-submit the tabs, and delete ones posted in the forums. In the meantime, people need their tabs! Are we going to deprive them of this simply because the webmaster decided to take a break without letting us know?

i feel kind of bad for jumping in an argument, but...
it's not right that we have to "wait patiently" for sander to get back when we have no idea how long that will be... for all we know, he could have simply walked away from all of this, meaning we'll never get to see tab submissions as a reality... again. so, it should be that all random tabs put into the request form, not under the band name, should be either bumped to the right spot, or if that's not possible, deleted... it's not fair that we all came here for tabs and basically get told by you, marty, that we should basically undermine the entire point of this website, which is the sharing of people's interpretations of other bands' songs, and instead not use tabs... i mean, by ear takes patience, but that is on very short supply when u need a quick tab to print for your band to cover and don't wanna spend the entire practice doing it... as well as it also solves the current problem of there being no outlet for tab submission of anything that isn't already a category... last i checked, this is still HORNtabs.net and french horns are still horns... and that harmonicas have no outlet for submission anywhere, so y not let the tabs be submitted here somewhere... sander can figure out permanent spots if he wants to when he comes back, but we need something while he's out, and by saying you're going to delete everything isn't just unfair, it's counterproductive

Man, I understand your woes. But there really is no organized way of putting tabs up in a forum. It creates a huge amount of unnecessary bullshit. I don't have time to sort out what's junk and what's not.

well it'd be simple, actually..
the tab thread would have a title, such as "band name tabs", and everything for that band's tabs for all instruments would be put under that thread... with the appropriate header for each different post, such as "song name - instrument"... then basically all u'd hafta look for is the random song names that have tab listed under them to delete... and the easiest way to make sure everyone knows about the new rules would be to post a sticky at the top of the forum in every topic thread

So I sticky every bands little thread? Making like 25 stickys so you wouldn't be able to see the new threads?

Man, this isn't gonna happen. Trust me.

Marty - if you are able to delete threads, etc, arent you able to just post up your email address so that you can post tabs? just an idea....

no... sticky the way the tabs should be posted, as well as a reminder it's only a temporary solution... 1 in the general discussion thread and 1 in the tabs thread... that's 2... the tab threads themselves would be regular threads with the tbas in them, each post in the specified band tab thread would be a different header for the different song or instrument... it's not that complicated

example:
Forum > Tab Request Thread > (Band Name) Tabs > (in header[Song Name/Instrument]) > Tab...
and every subsequent tab for that band goes under the thread with that band's name as the topic

i don't know why it's being made more difficult than it already is

I can't really modify anything in the forum. Are you saying make a kind of sub forum of band names in the tab request forum? If so, I can't do that because I don't have the power to.

My power here is basically limited to locking and sticky-ing threads.

maybe it'd be easier to just see what we're collectively saying...

example:

Thread: Tab Requests
Thread Topic: Reel Big Fish tabs
------------------------------
1st post: Sell Out - Trombone
tab tab tab
tab tab tab
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
------------------------------
2nd post: Beer - Tenor Sax
tab tab tab
tab tab tab
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

------------------------------
3rd post: Take On Me - Trumpet
tab tab tab
tab tab tab
~~~~~~~~~~~~
and so forth...
it'd be totally user-made, so all you'd hafta do is just delete random tabs that are either not under a band thread, or if their's multiple topics for the same band
Ok, I'll make a little deal with you.
Lemme talk to Sander first before anything happens.
Once I talk to Sander, find out what's going on, I'll post it in the Suggestions board.
When you read my post there, I'll give you the go ahead to post tabs or not.
Thanks Marty.
You guys seem to be worried about people that want tabs not getting them yeah? So in the mean time, if you've tabbed a song for someone, why not just e-mail it to them?
I've tried contacting Sander myself via email. I still haven't gotten a response from him. I don't know if you have a better way, but good luck.
As soon as I began reading your post Faulk, it came to me that email would just seem a better idea. I suppose that would work too.
