I just had my wisdom teeth pulled two weeks ago, and I haven't been able to play painlessly since. Has anybody gone through this? Any advice, or a estimate at when I should be able to play again? Thanks. |

I just had this done on me. Here is what you do. You go get Book One out, you know quarter notes and halfnotes? You play through the whole thing, cover most of the bases. What this will do is it will not overwhelm yourself. The muscles that you lost from not playing so long need to grow back to their original strenghth. It's the cheek muscles that are weak, not the lip ones, those should have held. Start out small and then build from there. This method worked very well for me. If you do sports, you wouldn't be out for a few weeks then expect to come back in full force? If you are playing and it starts to hurt then back off, even if it means playing five minutes and resting ten. Have fun on book one! |

I just had my wisdom teeth pulled last month. I took 2 and a half weeks off, then started up again by playing warm up exercises -- long tones, lip slurs, Clarke exercises, and some articulation exercises that I regularly practice. You'll get back quickly -- just remember: rest as much as you play during your practice session! Literally! And don't try going for the high and loud things yet. If it hurts, then just take it easy. But don't lose hope or anything, I'm back to playing probably better than I ever have since I have been correctly practicing a lot lately. However, it still does hurt a little if I'm playing loud (full) high notes and stuff. |
