| I have absolutely no idea how to do it, and it's driving me insane. People tell me to just roll my r's, but I don't know how to do that either. Does anyone have any good techniques as to how to learn how to do this? | ||

I can do it. I'm not sure how to teach you though. I think that some people just physically can't roll their tongue though. Like, something to do with muscle configuration. So first you should probably make sure that you can roll your tongue and then after you've worked that out, try with a trumpet. I dunno...try and like...put the end of your tongue so that its touching the roof of your mouth. The same as how you would when you tongue a note. Maybe try a little bit further back in your mouth though. Now say 't' and blow air out through your mouth while keeping your tongue touching the top of your mouth. But your tongue needs to me vibrating...like how your lips do when you're playing. But this vibration should be more like quick bouncing...much rougher than lip vibration. When I read through that it seems kinda vague so I hope you can follow it. If that doesn't help, just ask again and someone will probably explain it better. -Faulk

| Yeah, it's hard to describe, but very easy to demonstrate. But yeah, I'm pretty sure that flutter-tounguing relies on Bernoulli's principle, the same one that causes a piece of paper to rise if you blow over the top of it. Basically, put your toungue on the roof of your mouth, the tip back from your teeth a bit. Then blow air over the top of your toungue and, in theory, it should vibrate. This will create the same sound as a rolled "r." However, I've never had any problem rolling my rs, so it's never been hard for me to flutter-tounge. | ||

You just have to 'say' rrr when you play a note...do with your thongue what you do when you say rrr I mean...understood?

Put your tongue-tip about 1 cm behind you upper teeth (the place can be found when you say "t" - not like "tee", but only "t" ) and keep it relaxed... than blow out air and let it flutter. this text sounds really silly, perhaps its grammatically not correct (i am german)but perhaps it helps you. greetz from cologne

Yah, I can do it. Its fun, but I dont really know how else to explain it other than rolling your r's.
