| For a while I've had trouble tonguing fast phrases, mainly triplets and 16th notes, without pounding the notes or tripping myself up. Please give me some suggestions since its one of the few things holding me back as a player. | ||

Tounging is a difficult notion, but once you get it you get it. Basically when tonguing you need to remember that its not only a TA sound. You alternate between TA and KA (from the back of your throat). While slower passages you may only play with your tongue, the faster you get the more you need to alternate. To grasp onto this notion set a metronome at about 70. Tongue quarter notes, then start doing the TA KA TA KA thing back and forth. Keep speeding up the metronome. The best song to play along with to get your tonguing up when you're having trouble is "Liquor Store" by Less than Jake. Hope this helps, Roo |
