I play saxophone and trumpet. I have been playin sax for 6 years and trumpet for about three. I dont think its crazy playing a brass and woodwind instrument. In fact i found that it helped improve my understanding of a lot of other instruments. So i say keep going with the double instruments. And people also find it pretty impressive that you can play two totally different instruments. haha ladies love it.

i also heard that ppl in certain music majors, aka band director school, have to learn how to play all three categories of instruments (yes, i know there's 4... just there's usually only 3 involved in band)

if we're gonna start talkin bout other instruments...
my main instrument, at least for class and stuff, is baritone, i play trombone in jazz band and my band, as well as a bit of guitar (nothing special) in my band and just screwin around... and i could at one point play a bugle, but with a lil work, i can do a trumpet

im playin the alto, but honestly... i wish i could of afforded a bari, cept that there like 5k for a cheap one. but the alto is sweet. im learning to play songs on it from my band(monkey jacket) which, at one point was only saxes, but now were trombone and trumpet(at the moment. but alto to trombone? its kinda a big difference, mite take some time to adjust b/c there no keys. its all juss memory and how good u r at rememvering the exact spot where a note is in tune.honestly, good luck widby, tell me how it is, i could b juss talkin out my ass. it could be easier.

barisax is an awesome instrument, but alto is just as good. and it's more adaptable, and it's a good mix with a t-bone and trumpet. yea, over here for the same level bari as my alto, it'll cost me around £2500, garr.

but i've gotta get a new bass first, so no t-bone yet.

Well i actually play a bit of everything fairly well. Except for woodwinds. PLaying a brass and a woodwind is not as bad as playing a brass and a brass. Like trumpet and trombone or french horn and trumpet. Its just a chops issue. Even playing multiple woodwind instruments isnt bad.

Just from personal experience, its a pain playing two different brass instruments it really messes up everything thats going of with your face.

which leads me to an off topic point. If the mellophone section in your school sucks its not really their fault. Mellophones are completely different from french horn.

a mellophone is, and correct me if im wrong, a marching french horn that is shaped juss like a trumpet except that the bell is a lot bigger and it more of a "mello" sound like a french horn. the fingerings r the same as french horn

i agree to w/ the two brass is harder than brass and woodwind b/c playing trombone then trumpet really fucks up your ombisher. i tried playing trumpet once and it took me a while to get my original ombisher back.

ha... but it doesn't matter if you're going from trumpet to mello, or baritone to trombone... french horn and tuba are kinda screwed, but any low brass shouldn't be too hard to switch between, and any high brass shouldn't be too hard... it's switching between the two where your problem is
