I think that in general mellophones are underrated. I think we need to see more bands with mellophones i mean come on. Its like a brass woodwind. I'd personally like to see some more bands with mellophones in them.

I Voted For Kodos has a mellophone. Give their ska stuff a listen if you haven't already (Close Enough for Ska cd). Their newer music is more pop punk styled, but still utilizes horn sometimes.

it's not that they aren't used... check out any local marching band... it's since that they're harder to individually own, it's more likely to find them bought through school or a drum corp... where they find a majority of use... the same deal with a marching baritone (what i played until my senior night thursday... no more... whoa!)... but yeah, like mentioned above, they have had non-traditional uses as well
